Philippines Participates in the ASEAN Food and Handicraft
Festival 2010
 
The Association of
South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Ladies Circle in cooperation with
the ASEAN Missions in Tehran organized a "Food and Handicraft
Festival" held at Indonesian Residence on Friday, 12 March 2010.
The event is one
of the activities of ASEAN Ladies Circle which aimed not only to
generate funds for our unfortunate brothers and sisters but also to
raise the Iranians' awareness on ASEAN foods and handicrafts.
Mesdames
of ASEAN missions in Tehran, Hamidah Harris of Brunei, Malinar
Warinataatmadja of Indonesia and Pilar Priscilla Senga of the
Philippines did the cutting of ribbon to officially open the
festival.
ASEAN member countries
with Embassies in Tehran namely Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia,
Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam showcased their native handicrafts
including fashion accessories, home accessories, clothes and food.
Diplomatic missions like
the Chinese Embassy, the Bangladesh Embassy, the United Nations
World Food Program and other Iranian companies doing business in
ASEAN participated in the event. The Japanese Embassy also donated
food items for sale at the ASEAN Ladies Circle Cafeteria while ASEAN
Embassies prepared traditional free welcome drinks for all the
guests available at the cafeteria. The Philippine Embassy prepared
cold drinks "sago at gulaman" as welcome drink.
A big screen showed
tourism destinations of the ASEAN countries while popular music of
ASEAN countries played alternately both of which, infused a truly
Asian atmosphere to the affair.
In the Philippine Embassy
booth, pearl accessories, shell and capiz products, native bags and
fans, dried mangoes, polvoron, powdered coconut milk were among the
items on sale.
The event was sponsored
also by Qatar Airways, Mahan Air, Persian Tourism System, IRA
Catering services and Sanaz and Sania Magazine.
Some eight hundred
individuals including diplomats from different Embassies, ASEAN
communities, expats and Iranians attended the event.
